Gastroscopy / Colonoscopy
Gastroscopy / colonoscopy
Endoscopy is a camera procedure used to visualise the oral feeding tube, stomach and first part of small bowel.
Colonoscopy is a camera procedure used to visualise the entire large bowel up to its junction with small bowel.
Gastroscopies and colonoscopies are performed for screening, diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the setting of reflux, Barrett’s disease, colonic polyps, bariatric assessment and cancer.
Both endoscopies and colonoscopies are usually performed under sedation. If you are having both procedures, they will happen under the same anaesthetic.
